Published: 16 January 2015

The former Film and TV student, who was at the University between 2005 and 2008, received the nomination for The Bigger Picture, a short film which follows two brothers as they care for an elderly parent. The animation has also been nominated in the Best British Short category at the 2015 British Academy Film Awards (BAFTAs).

After York St John, the film producer, who is originally from Hull, attended the National Film and Television School in London.

Chris said: “Studying at York St John gave me the grounding in film and television I needed to produce a feature film straight after graduating. This feature film, Innocent Crimes, along with the video production company I set up in my home city of Hull are two huge reasons for me getting into the National Film and Television School, the place where I produced the nominated short.”

Chris, 27, is now based in London and works in film production and development.

He said: “I worked closely with the Careers Service at the University and they encourage the entrepreneurial spirit I still have now which has given me the determination to get this far, and this is only the beginning.”

Award winners will be revealed at the Bafta ceremony on Sunday 8 February in London with the Academy Awards event two weeks later in Hollywood on Sunday 22 February.

More information, including a trailer and ‘making of’ video is available on the Bigger Picture Film website.
